About the author
Brenda Oney Morris
A Christian wife and mother of six, a gardener’s daughter, and now a first-time author, writing from a small town in California.
Her story
Brenda Oney Morris makes her home in a small town in California, alongside her husband, their six children, ages ten to twenty-one, and a happy houseful of animals. The Bubblegum Tree is her first book.
Faith in God sat at the center of the home she grew up in, and it remains at the center of her own. She has passed it on to her children gently, in a way she describes as quiet rather than preachy: a trust in God to hold onto on the hard days and the ordinary ones alike.
For several years now she has been raising her children while helping to care for her aging parents, a stretch of life some call the sandwich years. That season, hard and holy all at once, is where much of this book was born. Her father passed away in 2026, and her mother is still with them.
A note from Brenda
I've always written, ever since I was a kid, but this is the first time I've put something out into the world. Writing is personal. This was a big step for me.
I didn't want to hit anyone over the head with faith. I wanted to tuck it in the way my parents tucked it into our lives: in the garden, in the way my dad fed everyone who came through the door, in the seasons that come and go whether we're ready or not. If a child finishes this book and remembers that things change, that good things are coming, and that God always has grace to get us through, then I've done what I set out to do.
Thank you for reading it with someone you love.
